Sisters and Brothers!
As you know, during negotiations this last summer, the union alleged that the company was not applying generally accepted accounting practices mandated in 2018 to the profit sharing calculations for union members. The Steelworkers Union was correct and won remedy to the issue.
The remedy is the following:
1. USS will begin to utilize the generally accepted accounting practices in calculating profit sharing going forward.
2. USS will pay each active union member 30 cents per hour worked in the same manner that profit sharing payments are paid. (520 max hours per quarter) for both the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2018. 1st quarter 2018 was not effected.
The payment will come on the March 19th paycheck as a separate line item($300). It is subject to taxes and withholdings. This will count as 2019 income.
3. USS will pay members that have left employment since the end of these two quarters on March 31st, 2019 what they are entitled.
4. This does NOT include and should not be confused with 4th quarter 2018 profit sharing results. Once we receive those, we will report those separately soon.
We owe this victory to Tom Conway, Mike Milsap, and especially Cary Burnell’s hard work researching and pursuing the issue.
